Leaving Las Vegas 1995

A riveting, compelling and tragic tale of two victims thrown together by gross misfortune. Nick Cage play a hopeless alcoholic (Ben) who bent on his own destruction goes to Las Vegas to drink himself to death. Elizabeth Shue plays a victimised hooker who somehow survives in a world of drugs, orgies and abuse. Together this doomed pair build up a unlikely relationship, one determined to die, the other determine to live.

The film was made on shoe string budget by director Mike Figgis and is based on the autobiography of John O' Brien. (He committed suicide two weeks after the film went into production. )

"To be, or not to be,--that is the question:-- Whether 'tis nobler in the mind, to suffer The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, Or to take arms against a sea of troubles, And by opposing end them?"

Ben, decides its "not to be."

This is a dark story beautifully told and Nick Cage and Elizabeth Shue are outstanding as the doomed pair.
